    ArtsFest

For 32 years, ArtsFest has fostered an interest in learning in area children through hands-on art projects that revolve around each year’s exciting theme. In partnership with the City of Lake Charles, the Arts Council invites local businesses and organizations to host booths that offer engaging activities based in visual art.

ArtsFest 2012 will take place on Saturday, October 27th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lake Charles Civic Center Exhibition Hall. This year’s theme is ArtsFest Celebrates the Holidays! Area children will create art projects that educate them about the historical and cultural significance of holidays from the familiar to the not so familiar. This year we are working with Culture Fest, SWLA’s multicultural festival that promotes worldwide unity and tolerance, and their volunteers will help showcase multicultural and ethnic holidays from around the world.

The day features live music, one-on-one pottery lessons, interactive demonstrations, and more! In the spirit of Halloween, all children are invited to wear their costumes to the event and enter the annual ArtsFest Costume Contest. Southwest Louisiana schools participate in the ArtsFest Art Contest each year, and the winners are displayed during the event.

ArtsFest reaches out to all Lake Area children regardless of race, ethnicity, age, or socioeconomic background, and it offers a safe and fun environment of arts enrichment. For more information, call the Arts Council office at 439-ARTS.
