“Flame and Citron,” a 2008 Danish film that has won numerous international awards, will be presented free at 7 p.m. Friday, May 25, in the auditorium of the Central School Arts and Humanities Center, Lake Charles. Calcasieu Cinema International, a branch of the Council for International Concerns, will present the film in partnership with McNeese State University’s Banners Cultural Series and Office of Diversity; Lake Area Psychiatry; The Hearing Center, The Arts and Humanities Council of Southwest Louisiana; Common Ground/Culture Fest Louisiana; the Danish Embassy’s Department of Culture; and Coca-Cola.

Directed by Ole Christian Madsen, the fact-based film focuses on two resistance fighters during World War II. The two lead characters, assassins for the resistance against Nazi occupation, increasingly question the agenda of those giving orders. Notable for its dark tone, visually and thematically, the 130-minute film is a long, honest look at the human response to war time, when “heroes” may not be good and villains may have that spark of humanity. Parents are advised that the film depicts much violence and contains strong language.

Dr. Thomas Laehn, political theorist and Assistant Professor of Government at McNeese State University, will moderate the discussion afterward. Free drinks and popcorn will be served!

For more information, call Corliss Badeaux, secretary of the Council for International Concerns, at 475-5310.

This parody of low budget 30s detective movies typifies British heroism. Teutonic villain Otto von Brunno and his evil mistress crash their plane in the English countryside and kidnap Professor Fenton who has discovered a formula for making synthetic diamonds. Bullshot Crummond is called to the rescue. Performances are held at the Lake Charles Little Theatre at 7:30 pm and 2pm on Sundays. Call 433-7988 or visit www.thelclt.com for details.

Playing the bumbling but always-gets-his-man hero Bullshot Crummond is former McNeese student Jeremy Neal. The dastardly evil duo Otto and Lenya von Brunno — the cause of all the hilarious mayhem in the play — are played by McNeese alumni Clay Hebert and Shauna Temple. Rosemary Fenton, the kindhearted but not-too-bright daughter of famous inventor Professor Fenton, is played by Stacy Solak.

The production is led by actor-director Greg Stratton of the McNeese State University mass communication faculty. Carla Cormier is the assistant director.
